Study abroad in Lima
Study Spanish in Lima and learn more about Peru's rich cultural heritage. Lima was the capital of the Spanish empire in Latin America and is now a huge city with 43 districts. The Peruvian capital has many archeological sites with relics from many different pre-Columbian cultures, which you can visit in one of the city’s museums. Lima's historic city centre is lined with traditional colonial houses with elegant balconies.
Lima also has a lively nightlife and the districts of Miraflores and Barranco are particularly worth visiting in this respect. Miraflores mixes old and new influences with its combination of trendy shops and bars, and more traditional restaurants and markets. The area also has a vivid art scene, being the home to numerous theatres, cinemas and galleries, and is a popular surfing spot because of the fantastic waves on the Costa Verde. Formerly Lima’s entertainment district for the wealthy and home to many early twentieth century writers and artists, Barranco has a unique colonial charm and relaxed atmosphere. At night, the area really comes to life, being one of the most popular spots for dancing and partying.
The locals, Limeños, are known for their love of food and this is a fantastic place to try Peruvian food, one of the most popular types of cuisine around the world. We particularly recommend that you try the ceviche limeño (Liman style), Peru’s national dish, accompanied by a pisco sour, a popular cocktail made from pisco, which is a grape brandy produced in Peru and Chile.
